We're a God fearing couple who moved from the city life to the country life about 10 years ago. We have slowly turned into small scale homesteaders. Johnny likes tinkering in the garage when he's not doing volunteer work with Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief and may post items he's created for sale from time to time.
Dawnett enjoys keeping the cottage on their property ready for overnight guests, making cookies and creating things in the kitchen.
Both Johnny and Dawnett enjoy their animals which include goats, chickens, cats and a dog
D’s Root Salve. The story.
In early 2019 my Mama found out she had cancer – again. This would be her third and final fight. Oklahoma passed medical marijuana laws and Mom and I were both curious about the plant. I got a license and set up a personal grow room at our house. I wanted to grow naturally so I started down that path. Our plants themselves weren’t very successful but the roots seemed to be a waste to throw away, so I started doing some research. In the meantime, Mama was going forward with cancer treatment in the form of radiation and then chemo. Mama’s feet hurt. A lot. A side effect of the treatment.
I started doing some research on the roots and found that cannabis roots have been used for thousands of years for all kinds of things medically. Check this article out on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) website https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5628559/#B6to see what I found. It says that there’s a long history of the roots being used for inflammation, gout, arthritis, burns, and many other ailments. Also, there’s no significant amount of THC or CBD in the roots, according to articles referenced in the above referenced NIH article. I decided to try making a salve with coconut oil, beeswax and a few essential oils to help with inflammation (peppermint and lavender) and another to help with keeping microbials (iggy things) out (rosemary). I sent some to Mama (she lived in Washington State) and to my delight she reported that her feet didn’t hurt nearly as much when she used my root salve. The last thing I did for her was rub salve on her feet when she said her feet hurt. Minutes after I rubbed the salve on, she said they didn’t hurt and fell asleep. She never communicated again and a couple days later moved to Heaven. I’ve kept this original recipe in honor of Mama.
In short, I and just about all our friends and family that have tried my salve have given rave reviews and almost always want more. Just as our ancestors found many uses for cannabis roots so have we. I’m not making any claims that my salve will heal any ailments, you’ll have to figure that out from what others have to say or from your own experience.
My journey with root salve has brought me here and recently I’ve started using the roots to make lip balm “The best lip balm I’ve ever tried” according to several friends. And I’ve ventured into making soap and lotion. I haven’t incorporated the roots in those items – yet. My goal is to make items that are as free of chemicals as possible. Thank you for helping me on my journey!
